Hey hey hey / Watcha got to say / Say hey hey hey / Watcha got to say / Hollywood, hollywood swingin’ / Hollywood, hollywood swingin’
I remember, not too long ago (hey, hey) / I went to a theater, and I saw the kool and the gang show / I always wanted to get into a band / To sing my songs, and become a bad piano playing man / So here I am, in this Hollywood city
The City of the stars, movies, women and cars / Well, I guess, I guess i’ll stay
I say hey, hey, hey / Watcha got to say / Say hey hey hey / Watcha got to say / Hollywood, hollywood swingin’ / Hollywood, hollywood swingin’ / Hollywood swinging (16x)
Yeah, I guess I always wanted to become a bad piano-playin’ man too. There’s always the next life.
This song is underappreciated. Everytime that rap starting with “I remember” comes on, I feel it. All other KATG songs have been on my iPod at one time, but this is the only one that’s stayed put. To tell the truth, I always assumed this song was from, like, 1979 or something, but as it happens it’s much earlier than that (1973).
While I’m listening to this, I wonder why I don’t know more early 70s KATG albums. Are they terrible, other than the hits? I don’t hear a lot of people waxing nostalgic about them. Somebody let me know if they are worth pursuing. I’m not sure they’ve been re-released… I could always check I suppose, but anyway. Thanks.
